Hello SBEmu Community! Glad to be back after a little hiatus. So rather than babbling on, let's just dive in.

1. Development Progress Update

First up, is of course, development. Now, as many people are probably aware, closed beta moved to Dalgoth! Dalgoth is one of the original maps, and is by far the largest map made in Shadowbane. Because of its huge size, we reworked the traveling on the map making it significantly easier to move around. Because it's so large, it has a good chance of being the opening map for the Emu. We've spent a lot of time this cycle getting this map as accurate and as traveler friendly as we could, and it came out great.

Buildings and cities are coming along smoothly as expected. High mapping still needs some work (eg getting the vendors inside the buildings), but know that we're working to get it done.

The CB move to Dalgoth was pretty significant for the team here, and if you'll notice, we've actually used that as a pushing off point to our next iteration. Way to go team for reaching the next iteration cycle on our handy dandy roadmap.

I should also note that because this map is new to large scale testing, a lot of the team's work since the last SoTB centered on making it work correctly. As of right now, Noob Island is 100% completed in terms of camps/mobs/towns etc. So good news there too.

Lastly, a development progress update wouldn't be complete without a complete list of bugfixes and new bugs we're working on.

2. EoTW Event on CB

If you miss those old style bane reports, well here's an Event Report filled to the brim with screenshots. Enjoy!

Brother Rewen had prepared this preface to explain the lore behind the event:
  • A cult known as Heralds of Entropy has launched its long-prepared plot to destroy this shard. Sources say that their aim is to end the Age of Strife once and for all by forcing the True Gods to intervene. They have constructed great magic nodes in the world that rend the ley lines holding Vorringia together. If these nodes gather the power they need, the destruction could be cataclysmic.

    Faced with true death for the first time in an age, the people of Vorringia find themselves becoming more and more ruthless. While many are fighting to the end, there are those who believe in the cult, and aid the them in their quest. Some believe the nodes will destroy only this shard and leave the others, such as Dalgoth preserved. Whether it is out of fear or insanity, the cult's forces continue to grow.

    The first wave of defenders who gathered to destroy the nodes, were met and slain by the Dark Lord Halgannon. With the stakes raised yet again, both sides must wonder if the presence of a Dark Lord is sign of corruption or if the forces of Chaos simply have similar goals with the cult. To aid the cause, the cult have hatched another plan to slay a nameless god who pursued Halgannon to this realm. He, some say, is Aerynth's last hope.
On September 30th CB participants were asked to join one of two sides – the Hearlds of Entropy, hell bent on destroying the world, and the Defenders of Vorringia, doing whatever they could to save Vorringia from its end.

As both teams met up at their respective bases their goal was simple – kill the opposing R8 mob while simultaneously defending their own. At the end of an hour whichever team had killed more of these mobs would win – and would earn a screenshot as the winners in this section of the SoTB.

With that the event began.

The Heralds of Entropy – a group composed almost entirely of mages took the offensive first. Early on in the event they had dispatched their scout to locate the Defender's and their base. With those coordinates in hand, the main group rolled out towards the Defender camp.

As the Heralds arrived, the Defenders fell upon them with holy blasts. The Heralds answered back with magic and mental power. Spells continued to flow from both sides as both teams began to fully engage each other.

At first it seemed that the Defenders had the edge as their AOE spells reaked havoc on the low HP mages. But the two healpriests kept the glass cannons active, defying the damage raining down on the mages. With a furious roar, the warriors and templars from the Defender's camp rushed forward to engage the mages in close combat. The fighting was incredibly intense on both sides. With an arrow to the eye (sort of) Confession fell screaming - JambiEye had claimed the first victim in the clash. Healpriests on both sides worked overtime to keep their people alive after this first blow, and for at least a minute there were no more deaths on either side.

Then, overwhelmed by the sheer damage put out on both sides, people began to fall. Right in front of me, Dru, a valiant Druid, dropped to the ground dead from a blast by Shakalaka – putting the Defenders down two men to zero against the heralds. However, within seconds of Dru's departure, across the map Grillz was struck down by the warrior Rock. Both teams continued to fight and moments later CurdX took an arrow to the knee – and was removed from the fight by Jambi. Again, almost as a response to losing another team member, Rock used his... Rock... to drop Bug in a shower of blood. Unfortunately for Rock, this proved to be the last straw and all the mages of Entropy turned their full attention to him. While a formidable warrior, the sheer amount of damage being focused on him proved to be too much for the Defender's healers to handle – with VampTailor's final spell, Rock took a dirtnap.

This really proved to be the turning point in the battle – without enough damage output to overcome the two healpriests healing the mages, the Defenders began to fall one by one. First Rysul was called, and subsequently dropped by Methis. Then came Beerbuff dropped by DwaDuzeCycki. Without any healers left, the Defenders struggled on valiantly in an effort to take as many cultists with them as they could. Jurrcof and Brotard fought on, but alas – even with their Templar training – the Heralds of Entropy proved too strong. Jurrcof fell to Methis, and Brotard fell to Sacrilege.

With that, the Heralds quickly healed up and engaged the Defender's R8. As the Heralds began destroying their enemies R8, the Defenders regrouped and came up with their own plan. The Defenders decided that, considering the time left in the match, they should in fact flank the Heralds, and engage the Herald's R8 mob. The Defenders used their scouts to spy on the Heralds while they began their attack. After a little time, the Heralds defeated the Defender's R8. They too had dispatched their scout, and had learned that their mob was indeed under attack. The Heralds grouped up, and began to roll out towards their base. Seemingly out of nowhere, Jerk attacked the Heralds in an attempt to distract them and slow their trip back. Unfortunately the ruse did not work, and the Heralds did not pursue Jerk.

Meanwhile, the Defenders continued to wail upon the Herald's R8 Mob. Expecting a Herald scout, this time the Defenders proved ready, and Jambi (the forward scout sent by the Heralds) was revealed. Confession laughed heartily this time as she lit him on fire and watched him burn. The score was evened between the two... all the while the Herald's R8 was getting weak...

In another effort to stall the Heralds, Jerk tried another hit and run attack, but this time the mages were ready, and Shakalaka once again filled the air with smell of char. In a final ditch effort, Winter – the Defender's last scout, engaged the Heralds alone. Within moments he realized his folly, and tried to flee, but it was too late by then. Bug saw his opportunity, and with the help of his team, was able to dispatch winter moments later.

Knowing their foes were close, the Defenders broke off their attack with the R8 and rushed to engage the Heralds. It was then the Defenders realized all hope was lost. Something was very wrong with the world – their spells would not cast – they could not move. Lag was upon them.

In fact, the last battle slowed to a crawl making it nearly impossible for either side to do much more than yell insults at each other that would be read moments later. Chain casting spells proved to be deadly for the Defenders during the lag – their healer couldn't find who was targeted – and by the time the server would catch up that person was dead. The Heralds, knowing the end was neigh, gained momentum, and quickly struck down Dru, Julio, and Rysul. Beerbuff and Brotard lasted a few moments more, but they knew they had failed to save Vorringia... The world crawled, and then died.

The Heralds of Entropy had won... and Dalgoth appeared...

It was actually a pretty neat event. Both sides did really well and fun was had by all (for the first fight at least). So the world ended... and as promised... the winners of this event:

3. CB Moves to Dalgoth


As noted above – CB is now testing on Dalgoth. I have some lovely screens here from the initial surge (keep in mind this is mere minutes after the servers opened up).

Phew. Now that's a lot of screens! For those who aren't in CB, I hope this was enough of a taste to keep you folks interested. We're working very hard to get this to OB, and we just ask that you folks be patient with us as we push towards that goal. As noted in a thread here, I'm hoping to have a speed walkthrough of Dalgoth for you folks by next SoTB. Thanks for your patience folks, hope this was enough screens to make up for the delay!
